Suns Gone, Slippers On

Now that the weather is finally starting to fade to fall (hooray!), it's time to curl up with a few good books and a mug of steaming hot herbal tea or cocoa. Here's a few of my favorite reads for stormy days.

  1. The Emma M. Lion Series, Beth Brower

I love a book I can recommend to anyone, anytime. This book has gone out for birthdays and passed hands between my friends and family. It's a cozy pseudo-historical read with a sparkling protagonist, a dry voice, and a heart-warming story.

  2. Take Good Care of the Garden and the Dogs, Helen Lende

This one sat on my shelf for almost a year before I finally picked it up. Lende felt like an old friend in the first two pages----and so did the people from her small Alaskan village. A beautiful reflection on life, relationships, and community, this is a memoir I'll keep and reread.

  3. And Then There Were None, Agatha Christie

When I first read A Mysterious Affair at Styles, I didn't quite understand the Agatha Christie hype. It was good, sure, but top three books published in English good? Meh... Then I found And Then There Were None. What. a. banger. Even near the end of the book, I still had no idea who had actually committed the murders---until the truth came out.

Keep your bunny slippers on and your eyes peeled for more fantastic fall reads. Do you have any suggestions? What are your favorite books to read when it's cold outside?
